The award is given by the IT Forum midtjylland to celebrate the good story and letting the nominees and award winners stand as shining example in Region Midtjylland.

Winners will be announced at the AWARD-show, 18 April 2013.

The game is being developed in cooperation with eVidensCenteret the leading Danish research centre for teaching and learning didactics and the Association of Danish Mathematical teachers. This insures that we have a well-founded knowledge of how to use games to support learning.

A recent study of the gaming industry in Denmark concludes that the lack of knowledge about learning didactics in the current game development companies are one of the main barriers that are keeping educational games from developing successfully.

With our contact to the leading centre for E-learning in Denmark, we have achieved just this expertise.

The main question are:

Can gamification help communicate store-planning solutions to customers and reduce the number of follow-up design iterations by customers having a better understanding of store space when given the ability to explore the area in an interactive first-person perspective?

Challenge

Bispetorvet is a central square in Aarhus which is surrounded by historic buildings such as Aarhus Domkirke (the cathedral of Aarhus) and Aarhus Teater (the theatre of Aarhus). This historic centre is to be changed by the establishing of new attractive recreation grounds.

Response

We engaged in a competition held by the municipality of Aarhus where we presented our suggestion for the new design of Bispetorvet. Our 3D model enables the user to take a “walk” round the square or to see the area from a bird’s view.

The model of Bispetorvet includes a daylight system, a rain simulator and several videos of fly-overs to make the presentation as lifelike as possible.

Result

We did not win the competition but this was the first real project that we submitted a solution for. The experience and, not least of all, the fun we had producing the model has been invaluable.

Challenge

Vejdirektoratet (The Danish Road Directorate) was in charge of the construction of a new bypass at the Danish city of Slagelse. A large-scale road construction like this always affects the people living nearby and, therefore, raises many questions about how the final result is going to be.

Response

We have made a 3D visualization of the road plan in order to give the citizens a detailed impression of the project.

The model includes a day/night system, an overview map and car animations. A video of flights over shows the entire new road section in detail.

Result

The model was shown at a public meeting and greatly helped to answer the questions raised. Afterwards the citizens could explore the model carefully at home in an uploaded version.

At the public meeting in Slagelse the many attending citizens displayed a great interest in the 3D visualizations of the new road. For three or four hours I was demonstrating the model of the project for people who wanted to see how the road would look like from their own property, or from the local road they use every day. Others wanted to see how the excavations for the road or the sound barriers would look like or just experience a flight over the road close to them. There is no doubt that 3D visualizations is a tool from which people can benefit.

How do you present a technically advanced idea to investors in a simple and easily understandable way.

Response

We started out working on the overall design of the product. We presented 3 different designs to the customer and based on those, one design was chosen. From here we started working on a physical prototype, technical renderings and general presentation material. This presentation material consisted of a homepage, one-page overviews and marketing materials.

Result

Within 5 month of the first meeting, the customer had an investment of 2 million Dkk.
